Color Collective: 10 Links to News & Hues, Vol. 5

Your colorful links for this week are below:

        • I was asked a couple of times about the colorful serving platter shown in last week's spicy recipe that I shared. Here it is. (Amazon)
        • My home color consulting clients are overwhelmingly loving this soothing color for their renovations. (Benjamin Moore)
        • As if the color selection for these bed sheets wasn't enough, they are the softest I've ever owned that don't squeeze the life out of your wallet. (Amazon)
        • What the legendary actress, Cicely Tyson (who passed away last month) had to say in this Master Class back in 2014 about ending racism is poignant. (Oprah.com)
        • Here's some funny with James Corden (host of The Late, Late Show on CBS) and singer The Weeknd from the Super Bowl. (YouTube)

Wishing you and yours a Happy Valentine's Day! Until next time, live life in love and color!

Colorful Quarters: 16 Radiant Rugs That Will Energize Any Room

Colorful Quarters: 16 Radiant Rugs That Will Energize Any Room

It's refresh season! Each new year always spurns the urge to cleanse our lives of all the yuckiness that pervaded our daily existence from the previous year. And I don't know about you but I'd like to wipe away as much of the 'ugh' of 2020 as I possibly can.

I hope you love the products I recommend! This blog post contains affiliate links, which means that if you click on one and make a purchase, I may receive a small commission. Besides burning sage to start the year with positive vibes, I'm looking to give a few rooms in my home some small, impactful shots of energy and life-affirming vibrations.

Since your floors are a literal foundation and below your natural eye level when you enter any room, they aren't often considered as significant when it comes to decorating. But I believe a stunning, strategically placed floor covering can change the dynamic of a room faster than any other design element. Flat or fluffy pile? Synthetic or natural fibers? It depends on how your rug will be used. For high traffic areas like a foyer or family room, you might want to consider a low pile wool rug. Low traffic areas such as bedrooms do well with silk blends and mohair.

The key to using a statement rug is making some key decisions before making a purchase. Do you want your floor covering to be the focal point of the room or do you prefer that it play a complimentary accessory role? Your decision will impact how bold or subtle you may want your rug to be. No matter what you decide, for a true energy shift, make it all about as much dynamic color as you can!

Apt2B - Furniture Built to Last

Larger rugs help to create a balanced room and placing the all of the furniture at least partially on the rug unifies all of your decor elements. But smaller rugs can be used to divide a larger room into distinct sections. For instance, a round rug can highlight a corner near bookcases and comfortable club chair to create a library/sitting area while a coordinating slim runner can be used in front of a couch to help define a family room section.

If you're just not sure about how much color your room can accomodate, a no-commitment way to explore is by playing the totally addicting game Design Home: House Renovation (available on iOS and Android) that allows you to express your inner interior decorator using real, high-end furniture and decor. You can design a room and experiment with color before you make an investment plus get exclusive savings on many of the home furnishings available!

Or you can contact me for more information on my Interior Color Styling services. I would be delighted to provide you with a virtual consultation on your home refresh project.

      New Arrivals

So as it is my constant quest to find economical ways to make the biggest impact in your home, I visited (virtually) a few of my favorite home decor stores and brands for a look at what was new and exciting. Admittedly, most of the  rugs I curated in the collection below reflect a bolder aesthetic, but I believe that the power of a room refresh is only as good as our willingness to experiment.

Colorful Eats: My Healthy Energy Blast Smoothie Recipe

Colorful Eats: My Healthy Energy Blast Smoothie Recipe - JulRe Designs LLC

      I am a Smoothie Queen.

Yes, I have anointed myself and I don't wear my title lightly. I have been a smoothie devotee since well before they became trendy and have enjoyed not only the incredible health benefits and the convenience of getting a few servings of necessary fruits and green vegetables in a small number of sips but also the vast number of vibrant color-filled food combinations you can use to make these multi-benefit drinks. I have the pleasure of drinking one almost every day of the year.

The Healthy Smoothie Bible has been a source of creative ingredient inspiration for a few years. With over 100 recipes, you're sure to find a smoothie for almost every meal plan or occasion. The book also inspired me to come up with my own smoothie recipe that I whip up in minutes in my trusty Vitamix Blender for a blast of energy first thing in the morning or in the afternoon to beat that 3 PM fade. As a bonus, I include some nourishing ingredients that may be beneficial for my skin. Try my quick and easy Energy Blast Smoothie recipe below or be a Smoothie Visionary and create colorful combinations to suit your own taste and/or health needs:

      Energy Blast Smoothie

      Juliet's Energy Blast Smoothie

      • ½ of a banana, preferably frozen
      • 1 cup of frozen chopped spinach or kale
      • 1 heaping scoop of Collagen Peptides (I use this.)
      • 1 scoop of Plant-based Superfood Powder (l LOVE this one.)
      • 1 cup of Almond Milk (this is the BEST!)

Add all ingredients to your blender, mix and enjoy!

      Love, Juliet

      Hawaii Ocean and Dazzling Blue

Hawaii Ocean and Dazzling Blue - JulRe Designs LLC

Blue hues represent openness, serenity and restoration, and what better way to celebrate spring than by giving a refreshing look to your home decor?

Our newest Color Craze duo, Hawaii Ocean and Dazzling Blue mesh the bright blue of the with the deeper, complimentary shade of Dazzling Blue to make a beautiful pairing that is sure to reinvigorate, bring inner peace and stability as we transition from the renewing energy of spring into the slower (and hotter!) summer months.

Blue palettes like this combo transport my mind to the restfulness and tranquility of our beautiful oceans. Our oceans need help now more than ever. In honor of World Oceans Day, coming up on June 8, 2019, join me in supporting this wonderful cause that strives to promote a healthy future for our bountiful bodies of water.

World Oceans Day is celebrated each year in collaboration with the Ocean Project and connects events, volunteers and donors from around the world that support the health of our worldwide waters. Find more information, including how to donate to World Oceans Day, here. For more information about the Ocean Project, click here.

Blue hues are always in style, and they can really add a sophisticated look to your home.  This combination storage and dining area featured on Domino’s style blog is a perfect example.

The bright and bold look of this New York City kitchen-dining room hybrid makes a statement that is sure to be remembered by all who visit it.

For a subtler take, these bathroom tiles featured on Designtra are perfect for when a bath needs to be an escape to more placid waters than those that come from the faucet.

Color Craze: Placid Blue and Yellow Pear

      Cheery, springy, pastels-a-poppin'!

Sunshine printPlacid Blue and Yellow Pear together make me smile. The pleasant print you see above in these happy colors makes me almost love the idea of wallpaper. (gasp!) But alas, the thought has now been pushed from my decorative consciousness. It says a lot about this color duo if its prettiness invited me to have a brief visit to the mystical land of wall coverings. No offense to those who can appreciate the wonders of latex, vinyl and adhesive. I personally have more of an aesthetic connection to paint, brushes and rollers. Nevertheless, these hues are a perfectly refreshing pairing for any room in your home, no matter how the colors are applied.
