Colorful Cocktails: Why You Need My Tasty Turmeric Tonic For Your Next Weekend Brunch

My Tasty Turmeric Tonic Recipe - JulRe Designs LLC

I have fond memories of one particular weekend brunch at the renowned abc Kitchen by Jean-Georges in New York City pre-pandemic. The entire meal was divine. Everything was fresh and organic, served by staff that really paid attention to detail. The room was packed and buzzy. From where we were sitting, we could see into the charming and whimsical abc Carpet & Home store, which gave me the inspiration to do this post. But the standout was a non-alcoholic cocktail I had while waiting at the bar to be seated - their Turmeric Tonic.

In case you weren't aware, the main ingredient contains a compound called curcumin, which boasts amazing antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. So while the drink's taste was warm and citrusy sweet, it was downright healthy too! I couldn't wait to get home and try to recreate it and since sharing is caring, here's my recipe. I hope you'll try it!

      Juliet's Turmeric Tonic

      makes 2 servings

      Ingredients

      • 1 Tbsp fresh grated turmeric or 1/2 tsp ground turmeric, though fresh is best
      • 1 Tbsp fresh grated ginger or 1/2 tsp ground ginger
      • 1 whole lemon (save the rind)
      • 1-2 tsp raw honey (sweeten to taste)
      • 1 pinch cracked black pepper
      • 3 cups filtered water

      Instructions

      1. In a small saucepan, add turmeric, ginger, lemon juice and leftover lemon rind, honey (sweeten to taste), black pepper, and filtered water.
      2. Bring to a simmer (not a boil) over medium to medium-high heat (about 3 minutes). Turn off heat.
      3. Strain into an airtight container and refrigerate until cold. (Can be consumed hot as well)
      4. Once cold, serve and enjoy!

Colorful Eats: My Healthy Energy Blast Smoothie Recipe - JulRe Designs LLC

      I am a Smoothie Queen.

Yes, I have anointed myself and I don't wear my title lightly. I have been a smoothie devotee since well before they became trendy and have enjoyed not only the incredible health benefits and the convenience of getting a few servings of necessary fruits and green vegetables in a small number of sips but also the vast number of vibrant color-filled food combinations you can use to make these multi-benefit drinks. I have the pleasure of drinking one almost every day of the year.

As a bonus, I include some nourishing ingredients that may be beneficial for my skin. Try my quick and easy Energy Blast Smoothie recipe below or be a Smoothie Visionary and create colorful combinations to suit your own taste and/or health needs:
