Colorful Mocktails: Prickly Pear Pink Champagne

Colorful Mocktails: Prickly Pear Pink Champagne

Spring has sprung but only on the calendar in the Northeast. Cold and rainy days lead to frigid nights with the occasional burst of warmth and sun. While it may be a few more weeks before the weather actually reflects the season, I've moved ahead with my budding bevy of beverages.

To start things off, I give you a celebratory brunch booster - my Prickly Pear Pink Champagne. A friend from my taste tester group has already served this pretty-in-pink, slightly sweet, subtly tangy bubbler at a baby shower and it was a hit!

Color Collective: Links to Colorful Living, Vol. 14

You may have noticed that I've been M.I.A. from the blog for over a month. Life has an unpredictable flow - sometimes it moves at a snail's pace then suddenly lifts you out of your comfort zone and tosses you into unfamiliar spaces with no instruction manual. That kind of explains the last few weeks of my life.

I've moved my personal and professional lives to a brand new city with brand new energy. It's been exciting and unsettling. Anyone who has moved into a new home knows that it takes a village but we only had a tiny hamlet. The adventure continues....

What is beyond me is that while most everything has been unpacked and put in its proper place, there are still some items from my kitchen that either lost their way, decided they weren't willing to make the move with us or have just vanished into thin air. I thought hosting a small dinner party last week for a few friends was a good idea but in the process, I had to repurchase many things I thought I already had.

One thing that was on my side was that I was able to catch a few fabulous sales on dinnerware, drinkware and cookware. Here are a few things I bought or want to buy for cooking and entertaining that may still be available at great prices:

      1.  These knives are so durable and stay sharp.

      2.  I bought these large bowls in all of my favorite colors.

      Colorful Mocktails: Iced Pumpkin Cider

'Tis the season for anything pumpkin! Spice lattes, jack 'o lanterns and pie all reign supreme during the Fall season and for good reason.

Not only are they one of the most colorful vegetables available, they are rich in vitamins and minerals and full of flavor.

Colorful Mocktails: Blood Orange Ginger Iced Tea

Colorful Mocktails: Blood Orange Ginger Iced Tea

Cocktail or beverage? I'll let you decide. My Blood Orange Ginger Iced Tea is my last ditch effort to hold onto Summer for as long as possible.

However there really is no reason why this drink can't work for Fall as well. Just substitute cold tea for hot. The flavors will still be refreshing and delicious!

      Blood Orange Ginger Iced Tea

The flavor of Blood Orange is similar to the orange fruit we know and love. But there's a layer of berry-ness that gives it a richness that is almost wine-like.

Ginger is a fragrant spice with a slightly peppery undertones and a sweetness that is warm and zesty.

I love citruses all year long and the richness of blood orange is smooth and satisfying, not at all tart and biting like some can be. The addition of ginger makes this drink extra special!

Blood Orange Ginger Iced Tea Ingredients

This beverage is great for lunch, brunch or partytime. Or just when you need a liquid pick-me-up.

And with only 3 ingredients, you can whip up a pitcher in no time!

Watch my how-to video or follow the complete recipe below for all you need to add my Blood Orange Ginger Iced Tea to your home bar drink list!

      Colorful Mocktails: Blue Agave Margarita

      Colorful Mocktails: Blue Agave Margarita

At the time this post was written, there were 38 days until the end of the Summer season. The CALENDAR end.

I'm always a little annoyed at things that have unwritten rules based on nothingness, like "don't wear white after Labor Day" or "Pumpkin Spice Lattes are Fall drinks". Who says? Who is this invisible authority figure that puts arbitrary timetables on everyday living?

Margaritas have long been associated with warmer times, beach vacations and paper umbrellas. But I'm here to break the cycle of seasonal rule domination by declaring Margaritas a colorful mocktail for all seasons.

My Blue Agave version is a refreshing mix of bitter citrus and spicy with a side of mild sweetness. It's a cocktail for ALL seasons.

Watch my how-to video or follow the complete recipe below for all you need to add my Blue Agave Margarita to your home bar repertoire!
